    Position:  Compliance Specialist


    Summary/Objective:  Assists in the development, implementation and enforcement of policies and procedures of NorthStar’s Compliance and Privacy Program in accordance with state and federal law. Directs, delivers or ensures delivery of privacy and compliance training. Strong contributor to a best in class compliance and privacy program.


    Essential Functions: 

    • Responsible for producing monthly sanction checks for all employees, contractors and vendors.
    • Work with CCO ensuring a reasonable and appropriate level of compliance with the HIPAA Privacy Rule and other Federal and State laws, rules, and standards dealing with Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
    • Assist CCO to ensure appropriate non-technical safeguards in respect to Protected Health Information (PHI) as well as other proprietary and sensitive information are in place.
    • Collaborate and assist Information Security team with protecting PHI and PII.
    • Assist CCO with development and maintenance of company policies and procedures.
    • Produce and report metrics related to compliance and information privacy.
    • Assist CCO in Identifying, investigating, reporting and resolving compliance and privacy concerns with the highest degree of integrity, confidentiality and professionalism.
    • Assisting in the buildout of a “best in class” Compliance and Information Privacy Program that ensures integrity of investigations, analysis and reporting.
    • Provide assistance to team members and clients with regards to the privacy of data and applicability of policies and procedures at NorthStar.

    Key Deliverables: 

    • Monthly report of sanction checks including resolution of matches to ensure all individuals and entities providing service to or on behalf of NorthStar have not been excluded, debarred or otherwise excluded from participating in federally funded health care programs.
    • Prepare necessary documentation for the intake of privacy and other compliance related issues on a daily basis.
    • Assist CCO in conducting investigations and preparing privacy and compliance investigation reports as required
    • Prepare educational materials and presentations for Privacy and Compliance for annual and focused training as requested
    • Prepare monthly reports for compliance such as incident and training metrics.
    • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.



    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • 3 years of applicable healthcare compliance experience
    • CHPS or CHC required within 2 years of employment at NorthStar
    • Demonstrated experience and competency in Healthcare Compliance


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


    • Must be a self-starter
    • High level knowledge of Health Care Compliance and HIPAA Privacy, Security, Enforcement and Breach Notification Rules
    • Must work independently and with direction
    • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Office 365 Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
    • Ability to compose reports, memos, letters and other correspondence
    • Ability to prepare and write reports, summaries of work/work projects
    • Ability to prioritize workload and meet strict deadlines
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced and fluid environment
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
    • Strong personal motivation with ability to work with little supervision and attention to detail while working in a deadline driven environment
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely across multiple levels within the company
    • Works directly with or develops confidential information, which requires regular use of discretion.  
    • Decisions require moderate analysis of data or information requiring development or application of several alternative methods. May involve development of timetables or interpretation of data with moderate impact on an employee group or department.
